J.G. Vaughan,Catherine Geissler,B.E. Nicholson,Elisabeth Dowle,Elizabeth Rice: The New Oxford Book of Food Plants

Description
This book is a revised and updated version of the "Oxford Book of Food Plants" which first appeared in 1969. The authors have added plants that have come into common use since then and have rewritten the text to reflect current knowledge, especially about nutrition. The original full-colour illustrations by Barbara Nicholson are reprinted in full, together with new paintings especially commissioned for this book. The aim is to provide a comprehensive and enjoyable reference work about the many edible plants we grow in our gardens, buy in our shops, and consume cooked or raw, either on their own or as part of a recipe. All plants are illustrated in colour with emphasis on the edible parts, while the text entries give reliable information about each plant, its historical and current uses, and its nutritional value. A delightful addition to the library of any cook, gardener, naturalist, and all those interested in healthy eating styles.
Part B: provides classroom practice through a range of activities spread over six chapters, introducing pronunciation and covering Sounds, Symbols and Spelling, Stress and Connected Speech, Rhythm and Intonation. The CD enhances the procedures. Part C: offers more to the teacher who wants more - in the form of quizzes and questionnaires, The New Oxford Book of Food Plants download PDF tasks and checklists - and fascinating further knowledge. For the teacher who wants to go further, "The Book of Pronunciation" offers the opportunity. RIVER S END From Steve McIntyre's earliest attempts to reproduce Michael Mann's Hockey Stick graph, to the explosive publication of his work and the launch of a congressional inquiry, The Hockey Stick Illusion is a remarkable tale of scientific misconduct and amateur sleuthing. It explains the complex science of this most controversial of temperature reconstructions in layperson's language and lays bare the remarkable extent to which climatologists have been willing to break their own rules in order to defend climate science's most famous finding.
